The Process

Onboarding

We will send you a contract and a questionnaire to answer to help provide us with as much information needed to set-up your business with our cloud-based bookeeping software.


Emails and/or phone or video calls may be required.

Set-up

We will set-up your company with our cloud-based accounting software, create your financial accounts, design your financial reports as well as set up your employees for payroll processing

Processing

You will send us a scan of your receipts, bank statements, and any other information that represented an activity for your business on a weekly basis.


We will record these transactions and send you a list of payments that you are required to make, such as supplier invoices, payroll, sales and other taxes.


Emails and/or phone or video calls may be required as we go through the documents for clarification.

Reporting

We will send you simple financial statements on a monthly basis after we have completed the processing, which will include comments and analysis notes.


Emails and/or phone or video calls shall be timely addressed on any questions you may have.

Questions and Answers

Q: What accounting software do you use?

A: We use Quickbooks Online+Payroll.

Q: Will you return my documents?

A: Yes. We will return your documents annually after the year-end financial reports are completed.

Q: Can I send my documents on a monthly basis instead of weekly?

A: Yes. We will only charge when we have transactions to process, and will prepare simple financial reports once completed.

Q: What if I get audited by the CRA or other government agency?

A: We will support you every step of the way, assist in responding to all government inquiries and prepare requested documentation.

Q: Can you make my business payments instead of sending me a list?

A: Absolutely. We can make arrangements to create payments on your behalf, including sales tax and government remittances.

Q: I have employees to pay, do you also process payroll?

A: Yes. We will prepare your employee’s pay including all payroll related reporting and remittances to the CRA, Service Canada and provincial compensation boards.

Q: I have fallen behind with my bookkeping, can you catch up my records?

A: Definitely. We will evaluate the scope and completion timeline to get you caught up.

Q: How do you bill for services and how do I pay?

A: We base the $1 per transaction fee on a posted transactions report from the accounting software and attach this to our monthly invoice which is due upon receipt. Payments are accepted via EFT or Interac e-transfer.

Being active in the accounting workforce for the past 30 years and leading teams from several small, medium, and large organizations in diverse industries has exposed me to the evolution of technological accounting tools and software which can greatly help small business owners trim their non-revenue generating expenses by outsourcing the bulk of back office transactional processing.


This inspired me to start Simplybooks, a home-based venture that hopes to provide high value bookkeeping and accounting services at a low cost.
